Roland Roussel

Cadets of Canadair-sponsered 588 Air Cadet Squadron held their first official parade and annual inspection last night.

Maurice Cousineau, mayor of Ville St. Laurent, as well as officials of the squadron’s civilian committees and its commanding officier, Flt. Lt. Eric Simms, inspected the cadets.

The squadron has recruited 115 members amoung the sons of Canadair employees, and the unit, at its weekly meetings, follows the official RCAF training program, including study of theory of flight, meteorology, radio and radar, drill, armament, airmanship, engines and airframes.

Air Cadet Roland Roussel was the first to step up to receive his shoulder flash, a proud moment.

Following last night’s squadron parade, one flight gave a demonatration of precision drill, and the official party toured the squadron’s training facilities.

A trophy which was donated by the Canadair Ex-servicemen’s Association and will be presented at the end of the training year to the cadet judged the most efficient in the squadron was displayed.

Formation of the squadron marks the first time that an air cadet group in the Montreal area has been sponsered by an industrial concern.
