Five Canadair Air Cadets Selected For Summer Training Courses

Five cadets from #588 Canadair Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, have been selected for various training courses in Canada and Overseas this Summer. In commenting on the selection Officer Commanding F/L Eric Simms stated, "It is quite an honour to our Squadron to have five boys proficient enough to be selected when you consider that the Squadron is only one year old. It proves that our instructors have done a top job."

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE VISIT

Flight Sgt. Ivan Manley, son of Ivan Manley, manager of contract administration has been selected to proceed to Europe in July for a period of four weeks under the International Exchange Visit programme. Manley was one of four cadets from Quebec and south eastern Ontario chosen for the visit and of the four he attained top marks.

FLYING TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS

Sgt. J. Gideon who works in central filing, son of Joe Gideon, leadhand, quality control and Cpl. A. Conway whose dad is assistant foreman, Wilfred Conway, fabrication, have been awarded RCAF Flying Scholarships.

The two cadets are scheduled to report to the Montreal Flying Club in July where they will commence training for their private pilot's licence. If they are successful after 60 hours of ground training and 30 hours of flying they will be awarded the Air Cadet Flying Badge in addition to their private licence.

SENIOR LEADER'S COURSE

F/Sgt. R. Baltins, son of Janis Baltins of food services, has been selected to proceed to RCAF Station, Camp Borden, to undergo intensive training for seven weeks.

One hundred Cadets, chosen from all Squadrons in the Dominion will undergo specialized training in instructional technique and leadership. If Baltins graduates he will be awarded a diploma and a bonus of $100.

DRILL INSTRUCTOR'S COURSE

For the first time in its history the - Air Cadet League of Canada decided to stage a drill instructor's course. Sgt. Yvon Bromley, now working in Shipping, plant 2, son of Paul Bromley. of tool and material control has been selected to proceed to Abbotsford, B.C., June 29th.

If successful Bromley will receive a Drill and P.T. diploma and a $100 training bonus. Further to this he stands a good chance to make the International Precision Drill Team and compete with other Canadian Air Cadets for the 'Beau Trophy' against the American Civil Air Patrol Drill Team.

SUMMER CAMP CLINTON, ON

Six officers and thirty-five cadets from 588 Canadair Squadron will attend Summer Camp at RCAF Station, Clinton, Ont., August 14th to 27th. Five officers and forty cadets from 592 Canadair Community Squadron' are scheduled to attend the same camp, July 2nd to 15th.

The cost of sending cadets to camp is borne by the RCAF. Along with basic training the cadets participate in athletics, rifle shooting and a series, of flights in Service aircraft.
